Come SleepPeggy Glanville-Hicks (1912 - 1990)311:10
        n/a
Darcy Towe, Voice
Rhodri Clarke, piano
Published in 1938, Come Sleep is one of the best-loved of all Glanville-Hicks’s songs. Possibly its origins were unknown to Glanville-Hicks, who was simply attracted to a song about delight, pleasing dreams and abiding joys, however it is confirmed that the poem was written by John Fletcher.

Premiere Arabesque from Deux ArabesquesClaude Debussy (1862 - 1918)1011:15

Leanne Stumbles, Piano
The two arabesques (Deux Arabesques), L.66 are two of Debussy’s earliest works, composed between the years 1888 and 1891, when he was in his twenties. Although quite an early work, the arabesques contain hints of Debussy’s developing musical style.

Piano Sonata in F major KV 332 (300k) – first movementWolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756 - 1791)

Leanne Stumbles, Piano
As this piece has matured over its life span of forty and two hundred years, numerous points of contention have increasingly become evident. It was originally believed that Mozart composed it in 1778. However, research saw the date amended to 1783 and supported by a letter from Mozart to his father. This work is important because it was composed during the time of keyboard development. This work is special considering its time of composition was when Mozart discovered the Stein’s pianofortes being “an encounter that would change the composer’s life” and consequently Anton Walter of Vienna built him a piano around 1782.

O! Wenn es doch immer so bliebe! Op. 34 No.9Lied von Anton Rubinstein (1829 - 1894)811:49
Arranged by Franz Liszt

Christina Wong, Piano
Oh! If only it always stayed this way! Sometimes known by its first line and mysteriously given a second catalogue number as a ‘missing’ Liszt work on that account: ‘Gelb rollt mir zu füssen …’ (‘The mighty river Kura flows golden at my feet’) is a translation by Bodenstedt of the Persian poet Mirza Schaffy: a hymn of joy to love and nature, once recorded in Rubinstein’s setting by Fyodor Chaliapin, and here given the most elaborate plumage in Liszt’s concert transcription.

Dedicated to 'comedy king Charlie Chaplin', Mr C.C. is a joyous and energetic work, drawing inspiration from stride and swing piano idioms. As described by the composer herself, she wishes to explore the colourful humour of Chaplin's monochrome films with various comic and virtuosic effects throughout.
