Toccata in E minor, BWV 914 | Johann Sebastian Bach (1685 - 1750) |
|
Katniss Li, Piano |
The Toccata in E minor is the shortest of the seven ‘manualiter’ toccatas. It is clearly structured in four parts that flow more or less seamlessly into one another. The piece opens with a simple prelude that goes into an elegant double fugue, followed by a free, improvisatory adagio. It ends with another fuge, brilliant this time. |

Tre Sonetti di Petrarca, S. 270 | Liszt, Franz (1811 - 1886) |
I. Sonetto No. 47: \"Benedetto sia \'l giorno\" |
Samuel Hill, Piano |
Liszt revisited renaissance poet Francesco Petrarca's sonnets a number of times, arranging a selection of them for voice, then for solo piano - two versions for each.
This particular sonnet is a reflection on the "sweet sufferings" of love; as the speaker looks back on the "blessed" moment when he was "bound" by his beloved's eyes, and the whirlwind of emotions that followed throughout their relationship. |
