Flute Concerto in D major K314Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756 - 1791)
        Movement 1: Allegro aperto
Gabriella Alberti, Flute
Rhodri Clarke, piano
Mozart is revered as one of the most prominent composers of the Classical Period, composing orchestra works, symphonies and string quartets. This concerto in D major, is the same as the oboe concerto in C major, with Mozart rewriting it for a Dutch amateur flutist. This first movement allows the flutist to display dazzling agility and clarity, both in technicality and tone, making it a cherished and adored work of modern flutist repertoire.

Luoping Liao, Piano
Op. 118, consisting of 6 pieces, is Brahms' second last piano solo composition, which was dedicated to Clara Schumann. The collection was completed in 1893, 4 years before Brahms' death. The second piece of the whole set, intermezzo, is in ternary form (i.e.,ABA). Though this piece is in A major, it conveys a sense of sadness.

Sonata in C Major, Hob XVI:48Joseph Haydn (1732 - 1809)
        I. Andante con espressione II. Rondo: Presto
Luoping Liao, Piano
Different from most piano sonatas, this sonata only have two movements. The whole piece is full of variations and Haydn's sense of humour. The first movement is comparatively slow and expressive. The second movement is fast and lively.

        1. Pastorale
katia mestrovic, harp

Sonata In A MajorCaesar Franck (1822 - 1890)
Transcribed by Jean-Pierre Rampal
        4. Allegretto Poco Mosso
William Rigby, Flute
Rhodri Clarke, piano
Ceasar Franck wrote his Violin Sonata in 1886 as a wedding present for the famed Violinist Eugène Ysaÿe, who on receiving the manuscript on his wedding day proceeded to play it for his guests. It consists of four movements of which today the 4th and final movement transcribed for flute and piano will be performed. The fourth movement evolves around a canonic imitation in the initial melody that is referred to throughout.

Piano Suite Op.14Béla Bartók (1881 - 1945)
        I - Allegretto II - Scherzo
Jesslyn Majuki Po, piano
This piece were debuted by Bela Bartok on 21 April 1919 in Budapest. This is one of Bartok's most significant work for piano. makes extensive use of other folk-like elements, such as a Romanian Ardeleanda rhythm in the first movement. Bartok also uses a twelve-tone row in the second movement, which is probably the only one in Bartók's entire body of works.

Quejas, o La Maja y el ruiseñorEnrique Granados (1867 - 1916)

Jesslyn Majuki Po, piano
The fourth piece in the series Goyescas , Maiden and the Nightingale, is the best known piece from the series. It resembles a nocturne, but is filled with intricate figuration, inner voices and, near the end, glittering bird-like trills and quicksilver arpeggios. Mexican songwriter Consuelo Velázquez based her 1940 song Bésame Mucho on this melody.

Sonata in B minor Hob XVI 32Joseph Haydn (1732 - 1809)
        I. Allegro Moderato
Timothy Kan, Piano
This sonata evokes an anxious and grim character. It\'s opening quickly establishes the minor key and the detached quavers in the left hand create a brooding mood. It\'s recapitulation also maintains the minor key thus retaining an agitating and grim manner throughout the piece.

English Suite No.2 in A minorJohann Sebastian Bach (1685 - 1750)

Piano Sonata in E flat major, Hob. XVI/52Joseph Haydn (1732 - 1809)
        I. Allegro
Joy Xi, Piano
Composed in 1794, Haydn's Piano Sonata in E flat major is the last of Haydn's piano sonatas. The material of the exposition demonstrates Haydn's inclination towards mono-thematic movements; while there are several themes in the opening section, they are all based on the material of the first eight bars. Other distinctive features of this movement include its harmonic exploration, strong rhythmic character and the 'wie aus der Ferne' (as in the distance) trope of the nineteenth century. yeaboi :)

Miroirs: III. Une barque sur l\'oceanMaurice Ravel (1837 - 1935)

Anastasia Tionadewi, Piano
Ravel was known to love and collect "impossible bottles". Many of his impossible bottles were a hip in a bottle. This was believed to be the inspiration of the piece he dedicated to Paul Sordes, "A Boat on the Ocean". Arpeggiated sections and sweeping melodies imitate the flow of the ocean currents.

Piano Sonata No. 16, op. 31 no. 1Ludwig van Beethoven (1770 - 1827)
        I. Allegro vivace
Anastasia Tionadewi, Piano
Before publishing the Opus 31 set, Beethoven told the publishers that he was not satisfied with the classical style of music, and that Opus 31 set marks Beethoven's new path of musical composition and style. Even though this sonata was numbered as the first piece in the trio Opus 31 sonatas, Beethoven actually finished it after Opus 31 no. 2, the "Tempest Sonata". The first movement of Op. 31 no. 1 is rather playful. The syncopations makes the sonata very humorous.

Andante et Rondo, op. 25Franz Doppler (1821 - 1883)

Anastasia Tionadewi, Piano
Anastasia Tionadewi (Piano), Charlotte Strong (Violin), Gabbi Alberti (Flute)
Franz Doppler was a flute virtuoso born in Poland. He was a student of Liszt and is known for the orchestral arrangements of six of Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsodies. Andante et Rondo was composed in 1870 to present the glittering and virtuosic abilities of the flute, violin, and piano. The rich and dramatic melody of the Andante cascades with rich harmonies. In contrast, the Rondo has a cheeky and complex rhythm of a Hungarian gypsy dance.
